Welcome to the first Boarding Pass of 2015!
We would like to wish all of our partners and students a Happy New Year, whether you celebrate the New Year at the beginning of January, the beginning of February, or anywhere else in between. This was also the first year that Brock offered January admission to undergraduate programs. We would like to extend a warm welcome to all students joining us in January!
A New Year brings new changes to our team as we would like to introduce Shari Sekel, who is our new Interim Director for International Market Development. We are very excited to have her apart of IMD as she brings 20 years of experience studying and working at Brock - including 14 years leading graduate programs in the Goodman School of Business. Shari is looking forward to working with the rest of the outstanding IMD team and all of our partners worldwide. She can be reached at ssekel@brocku.ca. As well, the New Year brings new award opportunities for future Brock students. Applications for awards are now open, so please read on to find out more about deadlines for future students.

Hello! My name is Lyne-Duchesse Iraduhaye and I am in my second year student in International Political Economy. One of the reasons why I chose Brock is because I wanted to attend a university where I could focus on my studies and not be distracted by a large city. Indeed, in my point of view, Brock is located in a good studying environment in St. Catharines, which I find to be a nice, quiet city. Moreover it is a great place to meet other students from many different countries. So far I’ve met people from Brazil, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Italy, China, Korea and many more.
Studying in Canada differs from studying in my home country of Burundi, as I believe a Canadian education will open more doors for me in terms of jobs and a career after graduation. Moving to Canada was not an easy thing to do for me because I was leaving my family and friends, who live thousands kilometres away, but it you think about it, it’s worth it because Brock delivers one of the best education experiences in Canada.
At Brock I am a Student Ambassador at Brock for an NGO called Anza that I am one of the Student Ambassadors of. It is Anza’s first year at Brock and we are working hard to start a club and make of this volunteer opportunity an unforgettable adventure for students at Brock.
I encourage international students to come at Brock because it is a place that will feel like home and where you will never feel alone!

The Brock University Students Union (BUSU) knows how much everyone loved O-Week, so now it’s time for us to reward you with an awesome week of fun! We have everything from live events to pick up ball hockey, to free hot chocolate and gaming tournaments! Come out and have a great time, get some free SWAG and hey— maybe even go home with some of the awesome prizes we’ll be giving away! |

Med Plus is a four year non-credit initiative designed to run concurrently with a student’s academic study. Applications for 2015/16 Med Plus session are now open and are due by April 30, 2015. |

Trip to NOTL & Niagara Falls
January 10
International Services is organizing a bus trip to Niagara Falls to see one the greatest natural wonders. As well, the bus trip will head to Niagara-on-the-Lake, the "Loveliest Town in Canada" and a winery tour! Tickets are $10 and are available in the IC210. Space is limited!

Winter Festival of Lights
Until January 12
Canada's foremost illumination festival with millions of sparkling lights on a 5km illumination route that travels through the Niagara Parks Winter Wonderland, Dufferin Islands and surrounding tourist districts in Niagara Falls.

Niagara Icewine Festival

For three weeks in January, the Niagara Region celebrates one of Canada's most cherished products, Ontario icewine. From Gala evening toasts to chestnut roasts and winery tours, the 20th anniversary of the Niagara Icewine Festival offers plenty for every taste.

Sparkle and Ice

A popular signature events for Niagara-on-the-Lake, Sparkle and Ice is a celebration with NOTL Icewinemakers and their VQA wines paired with Icewine inspired tastings from the Signature Kitchen Chefs. The event is set in the Grand Hall in the Courthouse in NOTL.

Icebreakers' Comedy Festival

Make sure to plan a weekend around this fabulous Icewine Festival experience. Icebreakers' Comedy Festival will leave you laughing, with great memories of Niagara-on-the-Lake. Held in local bars and eateries, the comedy festival will feature quality performers, VQA wines and craft beers!

Having been successfully running Brock University Chinese Social Media (CSM)for over three years, IMD launched a Chinese social media survey in late July to gather feedback and suggestions from CSM users. The survey was participated by 104 respondents in three months and received an overall rating 3.8 out of 5 regarding online chatting satisfaction. Two students fortunately won the survey lucky draw - Xiaoyong He (left) who is a current Brock student and Songmei Du (right) who is a prospective student in China!
